Case study

AlugaMais

A new, scalable setup on AWS, with isolated environments and containerized microservices.

3isolated, independent environments

About the client

Digital real estate rental company

AlugaMais is a digital real estate rental company that needed to migrate its infrastructure and its monolithic application to AWS.

With its previous cloud provider, the development, staging and production environments shared the same infrastructure. That limited the software's scalability, and the application was already slowing down at certain times of day.

The challenge

Build a new structure and an environment that scales as needed.

The main difficulty was carrying out a migration that separated the development, staging and production environments and made them independent.

The previous infrastructure lacked the flexibility to meet the demand for scalability, which hurt the software's performance.

The solution

Modernize the infrastructure to scale operations

Each environment (development, staging and production) was isolated with AWS Organizations, allowing each one to operate independently.

Access to the environments is now managed through policies and permissions in AWS IAM Identity Center, with centralized, convenient administration.

AWS services used

  • AWS Organizations
  • IAM Identity Center
  • Amazon ECS on Fargate
  • Amazon Aurora
  • Amazon S3
  • AWS WAF
  • AWS CodePipeline

Results

A highly available, secure and scalable environment

In the new architecture, KXC recommended microservices in Docker containers running on Amazon ECS with AWS Fargate. This "plug and play" approach greatly sped up the migration.

  • Load balancing: Elastic Load Balancing distributes the load across the running container instances.
  • Database: migrated to Amazon Aurora (RDS), with performance improvements and debugging tools such as exporting logs to Amazon CloudWatch and using Performance Insights.
  • Storage: files uploaded by users were moved to Amazon S3 and integrated into the application through the SDK, a secure, fast and resilient solution.
  • Security: AWS WAF (Web Application Firewall) protects the application against SQL injection, XSS, DDoS and bot attacks.

Today, AlugaMais has more than 5 microservices per environment, running independently, with CI/CD pipelines in AWS CodePipeline that streamline developers' day-to-day work.
